Alaska Seafood Nutrition Database
Overview
Alaska seafood is naturally rich in high-quality protein, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals. This page provides average laboratory nutrition values for raw Alaska seafood species and is intended for industry reference, product education, marketing, and customer conversations.
The data was generated through a collaborative Alaska seafood research project conducted from 2022–2024. Companion contaminant findings are available through the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) (external page link).
Together, the results show that Alaska seafood provides valuable nutrients while maintaining low contaminant levels.
How to Use This Page
The tables below provide average nutrition values for raw Alaska seafood species. Values are shown per 85 g serving (approximately 3 ounces) for easy comparison across species, with additional per-100 g values available in the full dataset.
Because these values reflect raw seafood, nutrient levels may change with cooking, processing, or preparation. Refer to the dataset for cooked nutrition resources (internal page link) when prepared-product data is needed.

Key Nutrition Takeaways
Alaska Salmon
- Wild Alaska salmon provide high-quality protein, vitamin B12, selenium, and naturally occurring omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 levels vary among species, with Chinook and coho generally showing higher levels than pink, sockeye, and keta salmon.
Alaska Pollock & Pacific Cod
- Alaska pollock and Pacific cod are lean whitefish that provide high-quality protein with relatively low calories and fat. Both also contribute omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B12, selenium, and other important nutrients.
Alaska Halibut
- Alaska halibut is a lean fish that provides high-quality protein with relatively low fat and calories. It is also a notable source of selenium and other important nutrients.
Alaska Sablefish (Black Cod)
- Sablefish is known for its rich flavor and naturally higher fat content. Among the species included in this dataset, sablefish is one of the richest sources of omega-3 fatty acids.
Alaska Shellfish
- Alaska shellfish species provide high-quality protein along with important vitamins and minerals. Snow crab and red king crab are particularly notable sources of vitamin B12, while both species contribute selenium and omega-3 fatty acids.

About the Data
How the Data Was Prepared
- Nutrition values are based on laboratory analysis of sampled Alaska seafood products.
- Mean values were calculated by species to support clearer comparison.
- Values are shown per 100 g in the full data set and per 85 g for a serving-size view.
- % Daily Value is based on an adult 2,000-calorie diet where Daily Values are available.
- Some nutrients may show zero, not tested, or not quantified values depending on the analyte and sample period.
- Samples were collected from commercially harvested Alaska seafood species representing major fishing regions, including the Gulf of Alaska, Bering Sea/Aleutian Islands, and Southeast Alaska. Laboratory analysis was conducted on samples collected during the 2022–2024 fishing seasons as part of a collaborative seafood nutrition and contaminant research effort.
Companion Research: Seafood Contaminant Testing
This nutrition dataset is part of a broader Alaska seafood research project that also evaluated heavy metals, PFAS, persistent organic pollutants (POPs), and radionuclides in Alaska commercial seafood species. Contaminant testing found Alaska seafood to be low in contaminants, with results generally below established safety thresholds. For detailed contaminant findings and project methodology, visit the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation’s Alaska Commercial Fish Contaminants webpage (link below).
