Certified Seafood International (CSI) is a third-party certification program verifying the responsible management of wild-capture fisheries worldwide, and chain of custody with the ability to identify harvest origin on the eco-label.

Originally developed as the Responsible Fisheries Management (RFM) program through a collaboration between the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) and the Alaska seafood industry, CSI has evolved to serve a broader international audience.

On July 1, 2020, ASMI officially transferred ownership of the RFM certification program to the Certified Seafood Collective (CSC), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation. This transition has enabled CSI to expand its reach beyond Alaska fisheries, promoting responsible management  across global wild-capture fisheries.

Benchmarked by the Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI), CSI audits fisheries management against a clear and rigorous Fisheries Standard grounded in the globally recognized guidance of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Fisheries certified under CSI undergo rigorous assessments to verify responsible management practices, including sustainable harvesting methods, effective governance, and compliance with environmental regulations. Additionally, CSI emphasizes traceability throughout the supply chain, allowing consumers to confidently identify the origin of their seafood.

The CSI program offers a consumer-facing eco-label, the “CSI Certified” logo, which lets organizations highlight harvest origin.
