The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) is pleased to launch a new consumer-facing video highlighting the Southeast Alaska king salmon troll fishery.

This educational and entertaining short video builds on a series of recent stories — including the shift to slinky pots in the sablefish fishery (YouTube link) and coverage of the pink salmon gillnet fishery (YouTube link) — all aimed at helping consumers better understand how Alaska seafood is harvested today.

This latest piece focuses on troll-caught king (Chinook) salmon and follows the process from harvest to dock. It shows the small‑boat fishery where salmon are caught using hook-and-line gear — a method that’s been used in Southeast Alaska for over a century.

The video highlights:

  • Community embedded fishing families
  • Careful onboard handling to protect quality
  • The connection between fishermen and the long-term health of the resource

Horizontal and vertical versions are available to watch on YouTube and download from the ASMI media library.
