ASMI Connects with Fleet in Kodiak
ASMI participated in ComFish this April in Kodiak – the largest and longest running commercial fishing trade show in Alaska. This show provides a unique opportunity for ASMI to connect with fleet members close to home.
Fish Taco Night
Each year, ASMI supports a fish taco night to kickoff the start of ComFish. This year featured delicious cod tacos caught by local jig fishermen and prepared by the Association of Latin Women.
Fisherman Townhall
This was ASMI’s second townhall event in Kodiak. The event was hosted happy hour style – complete with smoked salmon from the Kodiak smokehouse. Approximately 50 local fisherman and industry members in attendance were able to meet each other and talk with ASMI staff and hear about new ASMI fishermen outreach initiatives.

Consumer Research Presentation
ASMI presented market updates with Circana and McKinley Research Group during the forums. Circana shared the latest data on retail and consumer insights – highlighting that sushi, frozen cases, and canned products continue to be strong in the marketplace. McKinley gave a first look at the newest Economic Impact Report commissioned by ASMI with new insights on the Alaska Seafood industry, including employment numbers, and statewide economic analysis.
McKinley’s full economic impact report will be available soon – a two-page fact sheet of highlights from this research is now available in the industry on the ASMI website.
ASMI Booth
ASMI spent three days meeting with attendees during the show. Staff members answered questions, connected attendees with resources, registered fishermen for the refreshed fisherman ambassador program, and shared recipes, spice packets, and stickers to promote the Alaska Seafood brand at home.
These in-person connections are vital to ASMI’s mission, and the opportunity to engage directly with members of the fleet made attendance a resounding success.
