Kevin Lane

Chef/Owner, The Cookery; Seward, Alaska

Chef Kevin Lane grew up in the Sacramento Valley of California where he often (sometimes grudgingly) helped his family in the garden; harvesting and processing tomatoes, beans and his personal favorite, black eyed peas. He began his cooking career in San Diego at the age of 19 at The Fish Market Restaurant. Here, he found a passion for working with the freshest seafood available and spent several years working at the restaurant’s oyster bar.

After attending culinary school in the Sacramento area, Kevin was offered a Sous Chef position in Juneau, Alaska. As a restless young cook, he jumped on the chance and has lived and worked in Alaska ever since.

In May of 2015, Kevin finally saw his dream of opening a restaurant come true. At The Cookery, his New Alaskan cuisine is centered on featuring exclusively Alaskan seafood and local produce in a creative yet respectful manner. The small-plates/tapas-oriented menu features many house-smoked products including bacon, salmon and homemade sausages. The small dining room and visible, small kitchen allow Chef Lane and his staff to hyper-focus on dishing up quality bites in a casual and unassuming environment. While there are expansion plans in the works, Lane insists on keeping the cuisine and service simple, clean and unpretentious.
