ASMI’s Baltics Trade Mission Strengthens Key European Partnerships
ASMI and Alaska seafood industry representatives conducted a successful trade mission to Lithuania and Latvia, reinforcing the region’s importance as a strategic gateway to the EU market.
Lithuania continues to lead as the largest importer of Alaska seafood in Eastern Europe, serving as a key reprocessing and distribution hub. With over 22,000 metric tons of Alaska seafood imported in 2025 the country plays a pivotal role in handling key species such as pollock, salmon, and roe. Latvia offers growing opportunities through its established distribution sector.

The mission included retail tours, site visits to major processing facilities and logistics providers, and a full day of one-on-one meetings with Baltic importers and distributors. These meetings strengthened relationships, increased visibility for Alaska species, and identified new avenues for collaboration.
Throughout the mission, participants gained a comprehensive understanding of the Baltic seafood industry, from supply chain logistics and processing to retail and foodservice demand. The program also highlighted favorable market conditions, including Lithuania’s ban on Russian-origin seafood, which continues to create new opportunities for Alaska products in the region. The mission also gave ASMI and the Alaska seafood suppliers a platform to discuss new EU Catch regulations with key partners in the area.
Overall, the trade mission reinforced the Baltics as a strategically important market for Alaska seafood. By strengthening industry relationships, increasing market visibility, and identifying new business opportunities, ASMI and participating companies are well-positioned to drive continued growth in Eastern Europe.
