The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) is excited to be working with Alzheimer’s Resource Alaska (link to external site) to help reinforce an important message for Alaskans: growing research continues to show that regularly eating wild Alaska seafood can support long-term brain health.

Through recent conversations, ASMI and Alzheimer’s Resource Alaska have been exploring opportunities to share science-based nutrition information with Alaskans, connecting the state’s world-class seafood resource with trusted health and wellness organizations. One of the first examples of this collaboration is the article,Caring for Your Brain in Alaska’s Busy Season,” published in Senior Voice Alaska by Alzheimer’s Resource Alaska CEO Lisa Sauder. The article highlights research linking omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D, and seafood consumption with improved cognitive health and a reduced risk of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of cognitive decline. It also encourages Alaskans to incorporate nutrient-rich seafood such as salmon, herring, sablefish, rockfish, and cod into their regular diets.

ASMI has long promoted the health benefits of Alaska seafood, including its role in supporting brain health through essential nutrients such as EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids. ASMI educational materials note that regular seafood consumption is associated with healthy brain development and may help reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

We look forward to building a lasting partnership with Alzheimer’s Resource Alaska and exploring additional ways to bring credible, science-backed nutrition information to consumers across the state.

Industry members who work with organizations interested in sharing information about the health and nutrition benefits of Alaska seafood are encouraged to reach out to ASMI. Partnerships with healthcare, wellness, education, and community organizations can help expand awareness of the many ways Alaska seafood supports healthy lives and healthy communities.
