Description

The supply chain pathways of Alaska seafood to U.S. and foreign markets are as varied as the species and products produced. To better understand these complex pathways and identify opportunities and challenges for Alaska seafood, ASMI worked with McKinley Research Group to create this overview of the global supply chain. Although supply chain pathways are not strictly linear, this study lays out typical steps for the main fish and shellfish products starting in Alaska and ending at the consumer. This report focuses on representative routes taken by common Alaska seafood products over the last five to 10 years, as revealed in trade data and key informant interviews. Recent changes to policy or regulation and notable supply chain challenges are also described to provide context.
