ASMI Japan is going to place an Alaska Seafood advertorial in Seibu Department Store’s winter 2018/2019 Gift Catalogue to promote the range of Alaska seafood items that are listed in the catalogue as gift items. The department store will produce and distribute 600,000 copies of the catalogue, which will be delivered directly to consumers’ homes for them to order items by mail / online.
The advertorial features Mr. Morgan A Perkins, who is Director of ATO (American Agriculture Trade Office), at the U.S. Embassy in Japan. The advertorial features an endorsement of Alaska Seafood from Mr. Morgan Perkins, and promotes Alaska seafood as 100%, wild, natural & sustainable and an ideal ingredient for making Japanese food. Similar contents will be featured on the Seibu Department Store website. In addition the Alaska seafood products listed in the catalogue clearly state the origin of Alaska.
There are two traditional gift-giving seasons in Japan. “Oseibo” gifts are given in winter and “Ochugen” gifts are given in summer and usually consist of high-quality food and beverages. ASMI Japan believes there is potential to grow sales of Alaska Seafood by promoting it as an ideal, premium-quality gift in such department store catalogues.
While a two-page advertorial in the catalogue costs $50,000, ASMI Japan has used its relationship with the retail group to negotiate the two-page advertorial for $25,000.
