ASMI’s Newest Retail Support Materials Are In-Stock, In-Style And In-Time For Summer

Juneau, Alaska, June 13, 2007 – The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) announces the newest in retail seafood support materials: the Omega-3 Seafood In-Ice Sign Topper and the Alaska Seafood Nutrition Information Wallet Card. With the health and wellness movement in full swing, these two new tools are here just in time to aid retailers in meeting the demand for nutrition and health information at the seafood counter.

Now more than ever, consumers are looking for educated retailers who are in-tune with the latest health and nutrition trends. Retailers can stay on top by featuring ASMI’s eye-catching and educational Omega-3 Seafood In-Ice Sign Topper that quickly communicates one of many benefits of consuming Alaska seafood, omega-3s. Simply attach the brightly colored fish-shaped sign that reads ‘excellent source of omega-3s’ to an in-ice sign next to a selection of Alaska seafood. Now watch as increased consumer interest in omega-3s turns into increased seafood sales.

It’s not just omega-3s that make wild Alaska seafood nutritious; ASMI has captured many of the health benefits of Alaska seafood on the portable Alaska Seafood Nutrition Information Wallet Card. The card highlights nutrition information for wild and sustainable Alaska salmon, whitefish, shellfish and canned salmon. Consumers can look to the card for a breakdown of calories, protein, fat, sodium, cholesterol and omega-3s. “Customers see the nutrition chart more than the price. If you want to increase sales and gross profit in the seafood department, this is the best tool,” says Mohammad Jeddy, Seafood Manager at Fiesta Mart in Houston, Texas. Indeed, retailers offering the card to seafood customers will surely score points, and revenue, from health conscious customers and the families they shop for.

From the wallet card, to the new in-ice sign toppers, to nutrition brochures by experts such as Dr. Joyce Nettleton, ASMI has a complete stock of instructional, as well as eye-catching, point-of-sale materials available. Visit ASMI online at www.alaskaseafood.org or call (800) 806-2497 to order or request a complimentary Sales Aids & Literature Catalog.

Alaska is the pioneer of sustainability. Since acceptance into the Union in 1959, Alaska has been the only state in the nation whose constitution mandates that “fish…be utilized, developed and maintained on the sustained yield principle.” This long-term dedication to sustainability has resulted in keeping the world stocked with a continuous, ever-replenishing supply of wild seafood.  Indeed, Alaska's effective and precise fisheries management practices are considered a model for the world.

The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute is the State of Alaska’s official seafood marketing arm.  It is a public agency of the State of Alaska, funded by the Alaska seafood industry and federal grants.  ASMI promotes Alaska seafood throughout the U.S. and in 16 other countries.  ASMI also provides education and training to the seafood industry in food safety and quality assurance practices.  Please go to www.alaskaseafood.org for more information.
