Frozen Seafood Consumption is on the Rise

An article featured in IntraFish, titled, "Nearly Half of U.S. Households Consume Frozen Seafood," touted positive news for frozen seafood. The article begins by informing readers: "Almost 50 percent of the nearly 110 million households in the United States consume frozen prepared seafood, according to a new report on the frozen food industry." The article further noted, "Overall, the market for frozen foods totaled nearly $28 billion in 2005, and is expected to grow 2.8 percent a year through 2010, when it is estimated to be $32 billion."

Additionally, the report from market research publisher Packaged Facts, was quoted stating, "Much of this growth will come from a renewed emphasis on upscale and 'better-for-you' entrées catering to the needs of time-crunched families."

In Refrigerated & Frozen Foods Retailer, the Seafood Category Review informs readers:

"A Lenten season that was later this year than last - coupled with new 'healthy' items and slightly greater variety on the shelf - sparked a 10.7% gain in combined frozen fish and shrimp sales in the 12 weeks ended May 21 in supermarkets, drug stores and mass merchandise outlets, according to Chicago-based Information Resources, Inc."
