How to Export Seafood

Online Quality Training Program
The Alaska Seafood Quality & Handling Training program has three training tracks one for harvesters, one for tenders, and one for processors. Each track is designed to train industry members how to maintain quality and includes a quiz at the end.
Listeria Control Manual for Alaska Crab (PDF)
With recent concerns over Listeria contamination in ready-to-eat products, such as cooked crab, the Food Products Association (FPA) has prepared a Listeria control manual for processors to assist them in control of Listeria in their crab operations.
New - Alaska Salmon Quality Survey - Executive Summary (PDF)
The 2006 Alaska Salmon Quality survey is completed. ASMI has conducted surveys of the Alaska industry on salmon quality every 5 years since 1991. 2006 results show increases in percentage of fish chilled, percentage of fish bled, and reductions in delivery times and brail bag weights. Improvements in quality handling are more marked than in the previous 5 year period. This year's survey was funded by the Alaska Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development. ASMI gratefully acknowledges their funding support.

Roe Handling Placards in English, Spanish, and Tagalog

Because roe products are a “ready-to-eat” food, careful steps must be taken to ensure the product does not become contaminated. Special “Reminder” placards highlighting sanitation practices were created in English, Spanish and Tagalog. The placards are suitable for hanging in the roe room or other locations in the plant. Place cards may be printed in two sizes 8.5x11 and 11x17. Protecting the high value of roe products in the marketplace includes taking extra care to ensure our products are absolutely safe and high quality.

Refrigeration systems, insulated fish holds, slider reels, and other vessel improvements can become a reality thanks to loans at 2 points below the prime interest rate, offered as part of a Product Quality Improvement program established within the State of Alaska’s existing Commercial Fishing Loan Program.
