Alaska Seafood Newsbrief
ASMI E-Newsletter for the Alaska Seafood Industry
December 30 , 2005
In this issue:
Message from the Executive Director
As 2005 comes to a close, we should reflect back on what has been a very successful year for ASMI and the Alaska Seafood industry as a whole. Wild Alaska Seafood is highly sought after in the market place both at home and abroad, grounds prices are generally up and the harvest projections and market conditions for this coming year look promising. Sure there are many challenges facing our industry but all-in-all, I believe most would agree that this was a better year then the previous one and the future for Alaska Seafood looks bright.
On behalf of the entire ASMI staff I would like to thank the Alaska Seafood Industry (processors and harvesters) for your strong support this past year. We are pleased to be a part of this dynamic industry and are committed to doing the best job possible for you in the year ahead
Have a happy and prosperous New Year,
Ray Riutta

State Partnership with Industry Reflected in Governor's Budget
A state match for industry and federal dollars for ASMI appears in the FY07 Operating Budget proposal Governor Frank Murkowski submitted to the Alaska State Legislature in December. The request also appears in a list of highlighted budget items designed to invest in Alaska’s future (see page 7 of the linked “Highlights”). Upon approval by the legislature, the funds will help ASMI leverage millions in federal dollars to support marketing efforts.
The Governor’s Office of Management and Budget updated its Missions and Measures for Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute. The new mission statement reflects the ASMI board of directors’ dedication to increasing the value of Alaska’s harvest.
