Alaska Seafood Newsbrief
ASMI E-Newsletter for the Alaska Seafood Industry
October 7 , 2005
In this issue:
Message from the Executive Director
Welcome to the first edition of Newsbrief, the ASMI e-newsletter for people in the Alaska seafood industry. This e-newsletter is part of our effort to better align and communicate with our industry. Keeping you better informed is one of the tasks the new ASMI Board has given us. In these e-newsletters we will provide updates on ASMI activities and a heads up on our future plans. I intend to keep these short and informative, with links to detailed information if you want to know more.
Why an e-newsletter? Simple: it is a quick and cheap way to keep you informed without incurring printing and mailing costs.
I welcome your feedback on whether this type of communication is useful to you. I do not want to clutter up your inbox with stuff you don't want to read. If there are specific items you would like to see addressed please let us know and we will cover them.
All the best,
Ray Riutta

ASMI Seafood Market Information Service
Does your operation need the latest economic data on markets for Alaska's key commercial seafood species? The ASMI Seafood Market Information Service (SMIS) is a data service provided to the Alaska seafood industry. It offers production and market data, trend tracking and analysis for Alaska's key seafood species. The scope of SMIS was recently expanded to cover whitefish varieties and shellfish in addition to salmon. ASMI contracts with McDowell Group, an economic research and consulting firm in Alaska, for this service. The SMIS includes the Seafood Market Bulletin, as well as in- season Alaska salmon price tracking. As of this month, the Seafood Market Bulletin will replace the Salmon Market Bulletin. It will be distributed electronically, rather than by U.S. mail.
