Alaska Halibut, Alaska Salmon and Alaska Rockfish will be included in a fresh fish display. The Alaska fishermen will talk to people about sustainable Alaska seafood, and distribute ASMI's new sustainable Alaska Seafood wallet card. The Alaska group will wear shirts bearing the Alaska Seafood logo on the front, and the 50th Anniversary of Alaska Statehood logo on the back, to draw attention to 50 years of sustainable Alaska fisheries management. Slow Food was founded in Italy in 1986 to protect traditional foodways, and support local producers and sustainable food production. It boasts 80,000 members around the world. The event is the first national U.S. event of the international Slow Food movement, and organizers expect 60,000 people to participate.
