ALASKA SHELLFISH FACT SHEET
Alaska's Shellfish are only found in a place of massive glaciers, untamed
rivers and vast icy seas and are known and prized throughout the World.
Alaska King Crab
- Largest members of the crab family.
- Average weight is six to ten pounds.
- Prized for the white body meat and leg meat.
- Most often served in upscale restaurants.
Alaska Snow Crab
- Known for its sweet, subtle flavor, white body and leg meat and
delicate texture.
- Average weight is one to three pounds.
- Most often found on a variety of menus; from full-service to specialty
restaurants.
Alaska Dungeness Crab
- Commonly served whole.
- Average weight is two to three pounds.
- Offers a beautiful orange color with sweet flavor and tender flakiness.
Alaska Pink Shrimp
- It's the smallest of the shrimp species.
- Offers an average of 350/500 count (whole-cooked).
- They are small and delicate, making them ideal for salads, omelettes,
casseroles and sandwiches.
Alaska Spot Prawns
- Largest of the cold-water species up to nine inches.
- Offers an average of 21/30 count.
- Known for its firm texture and sweet flavor.
- These are not available in large quantities.
Alaska Scallops
- Known for their exceptional size and quality.
- Features a sweet, tender, buttery meat that is creamy in color and
becomes white when cooked.
- The average valve height is four inches.
