SEAFOOD MARKETING INSTITUTE FACT SHEET
Purpose The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) is the State of Alaska's official seafood marketing arm. It is a public corporation of the State of Alaska, funded by the Alaska seafood industry and federal grants. ASMI promotes Alaska Seafood throughout the U.S. and in 17 other countries. ASMI also provides education and training to the seafood industry in food safety and quality assurance practices. Marketing Objectives ASMI's marketing programs are designed to position Alaska Seafood as a delicious, healthy, center-of-the-plate meal selection. In order to achieve this, ASMI is divided into three distinct marketing sectors: foodservice, retail and export. All three programs are designed to enhance the appeal and popularity of Alaska Seafood. The foodservice and retail programs focus their activities on the U.S., while the export program operates in the European Union, Australia, China, Japan and Taiwan. Foodservice Program Retail Program Export Program ASMI Chef Recently, ASMI hired Chef Peter D'Andrea as the new Executive Chef. His charge is to assist ASMI and its foodservice staff in developing programs for national foodservice operators as well as distributors. Chef D'Andrea will also develop recipes using ASMI's products and oversee training seminars geared for high-level chefs of national corporations. Chef D'Andrea has over 25 years of culinary experience as an executive chef with national corporations including Marriott Hotels, Aramark, and Fairmont Hotels. His culinary creativity and enthusiasm have been key ingredients in the success of Marriott's Alaska Seafood promotions. Products ASMI products include various species of salmon as well as halibut,
cod, Dungeness crab, King crab, Pollock, scallops, Snow crab, sole,
