FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE���� The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute Sponsors its Fourth JUNEAU, AK (December 18, 2000) - In its fourth year as a major sponsor of this annual seafood extravaganza, the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute is gearing up for one of the most unique culinary competitions in the United States - Symphony of Seafood. The Symphony of Seafood is in its eighth year and is organized by the Alaska Fisheries Development Council. The event is designed to boost new product development for value-added seafood products made from Alaska's fish. The event will take place from January 26 - 27, 2001 in Anchorage, Alaska and the winners of the event will receive free exhibit space at the International Boston Seafood Show. The Symphony of Seafood will unveil some of the best new, value-added products, including smoked products, made with all types of Alaska fish from salmon to various species of whitefish and shellfish. A panel of judges, including top U.S. chefs, major foodservice buyers, seafood wholesalers as well as food editors, will evaluate retail and foodservice products in a number of categories, including taste, price and marketability. A private judging with the panel will take place on Friday, January 26 at the Westin Alyeska Prince Hotel, which is 40 miles south of Anchorage. On Saturday, January 27 the awards ceremony and festivities will take place at the historical Fourth Avenue Theater in downtown Anchorage. The event is open to the public and will give consumers the opportunity to taste many of the delectable value-added Alaska Seafood products as well as vote for their favorite dish in the People's Choice Awards. In addition to booth space at the 2001International Boston Seafood Show, the top vote earners in both the private judging and the People's Choice competition will receive a product photo shoot and earn the right to use the Symphony Winner sticker on packaging and in promotional materials. "Symphony of Seafood is an excellent venue to educate members of the food industry as well as consumers about Alaska Seafood.
