FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Harvested Only One Week Each Year, The World-Renowned JUNEAU, AK (November 14, 2000) - The Bristol Bay Red King Crab Fishery opened its doors on October 15, 2000 to more than 225 vessels geared and ready to catch the mighty Red King Crab. As of today, Alaska King Crab is ready for distribution throughout North America - just in time for the holidays. The Bristol Bay Red King Crab Fishery caught close to 8 million pounds of Alaska King Crab, which was transported live to the processing plants, where it was cleaned, cooked and immediately frozen. Alaska's state-of-the-art freezing and processing technology, which is employed within hours of harvesting, ensures a consistent, high-quality product by preserving Alaska King Crab's sweet flavor, rich, tender texture and snow white meat, regally edged in red. Operators can menu Alaska King Crab as a seafood specialty year round and in a variety of forms, including whole or split legs and claws. From upscale, white tablecloth to casual and specialty theme restaurants, Alaska King Crab allows profitable pricing with the added value of easy preparation and reduced labor costs. Innovative recipe suggestions include poached Alaska King Crab with a roasted garlic tartar sauce. It can then be enhanced with Oriental flavors such as a ginger sauce and black beans. Alaska King Crab can also be served with a variety of dipping sauces, including Mexican salsa, or be used as an ingredient in pasta or elaborate stuffings. Alaska King Crab has an average weight of six to ten pounds. It is low in fat and calories and offers a healthy source of high-quality protein. -30- |
