FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JUNEAU, AK (October, 2004) - Culinary student Steven Nowling of Aloha, OR is the Grand Prize winner of the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute's Wild Style Alaska Salmon sweepstakes. He wins an all-expenses paid trip to the Culinary Institute of America's (CIA) annual Worlds of Flavor conference this fall in Napa Valley, CA. Nowling was one of many culinary students who entered the sweepstakes after completing the "Wild Style" Alaska Salmon Interactive CD-ROM training program and on-line quiz. Over 40,000 copies of the CD-ROM training were distributed to culinary students through the American Culinary Federation's Sizzle magazine. There were also 20 First Prizes of Apple® iPod minis awarded to culinary students completing the on-line quiz. Every student who completed the final quiz on the ASMI website also earned five continuing education hours from the American Culinary Federation. "Wild Style" was designed to educate chefs and culinary professionals on the unique qualities of Wild Alaska Salmon. The 20-minute CD-ROM has five educational sections on Wild Alaska Salmon, their sustainability, harvest methods, species identification, and availability including color video footage and photographs with narration. Each section is followed by a short practice quiz, in preparation for the "Wild Style" final online quiz. Although the contest is complete, the "Wild Style" CD-ROM educational program with continuing education hours can still be ordered by calling ASMI at 800-806-2497. The ASMI website, http://www.alaskaseafood.org/foodservice, has information on promotions, suppliers, and other Alaska seafood products, including Alaska Whitefish varieties (cod, halibut, pollock, sole, sablefish), and Alaska Shellfish (crab, scallops, shrimp, spot prawns). ### |
