FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Kake Foods, Inc. Wins First Place in the Foodservice Category During Alaska's Premier Symphony of Seafood Event JUNEAU, AK (February 2, 2001) - Alaska's Symphony of Seafood, the nation's largest new-products contest for foodservice, retail and smoked products made from Alaska Seafood, awarded Kake Foods first place in the foodservice category for their innovative yet versatile "Salmon Sausage Pizza Topping." Trident Seafoods Corporation took home second place for their tasty "Trident Tabasco® Cod Fillet Tenders" as well as won the "People's Choice" award for its "Sealegs® Extremers Seafood & Crab Bites." Third place was awarded to American Seafoods International for their scrumptious "Southwestern Glaze Ocean Cut." These three winners earned the discerning tastes of seven official judges, including top U.S. chefs, seafood wholesalers, food editors as well as an award-winning television producer, all of whom spent five hours on Friday, January 26 grading each of the 18 product entries for taste, texture, packaging and marketability. On Saturday, January 27 a Gala Soiree held at the infamous Fourth Avenue Theater in Anchorage, Alaska, gave the public an opportunity to taste and vote for which of the 18 products they deemed most succulent. As first place winners, Kake Foods has earned exhibit space at the International Boston Seafood Show, which will be held in March. The top three winners in the foodservice category earned the right to use the Symphony Winner sticker on packaging and in promotional materials. "We're very proud to play a role in the ever-growing Symphony of Seafood event. It is an excellent opportunity for the industry to educate itself as well as consumers about Alaska Seafood's value-added products," said Claudia Hogue, Marketing Director for the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute. The Alaska Symphony of Seafood is organized by the Alaska Fisheries Development Foundation and is sponsored in part by the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute. The event is designed to boost new product development for value-added seafood products made from Alaska Seafood. The official judging for this year's event took place on January 26 at the Westin Alyeska Prince Hotel in Girdwood, Alaska and the Gala Soiree was held on January 27 in Anchorage, Alaska. -30-
