Bears and Totem Poles Help Operators Menu Alaska Seafood to Kids

JUNEAU, AK (January 4, 2001) - Online and on the table, the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) is dedicated to helping foodservice operators menu Alaska Seafood to kids.

The newest effort includes the development of a "Go Fish: Adventures in Alaska" foodservice activity program. The program includes menu shells for foodservice operators to feature a children's only menu as well as kid's items, including temporary tattoos, educational posters and placements that feature activities such as mazes, puzzles, connect the dots and much more.

Starting in February, foodservice operators can request a four-page brochure that features kid's menu ideas and suggestions developed by ASMI Executive Chef, Peter D'Andrea, as well as the benefits of menuing Alaska Seafood to children.

"Statistics show that children spend close to 35 billion dollars each year from their own piggy banks and supports that they influence where the family dines. Therefore, it only made sense to help foodservice operators creatively menu Alaska Seafood while educating their customers about Alaska and its great outdoors," said Claudia Hogue, Marketing Director for ASMI.

Foodservice operators can request these materials by calling ASMI at 800- 806-2497 or order on-line by clicking here.

In addition to the "Go Fish: Adventures in Alaska" program, ASMI's online efforts include a kid's only section called "Small Fry." The web page provides fun, educational materials for kid's, including simple recipes using Alaska Seafood as well as interactive materials for teachers to easily download and reproduce for classroom use.
