Alaska is one of the greatest and most important wild-salmon producing areas in the world.

  • Alaska wild salmon are plentiful.
  • Over 213 million salmon were commercially harvested in Alaska in 1999.
  • Five species of salmon are harvested in Alaska: king (chinook), coho (silver), sockeye (red), pink (humpback) and keta (chum).
  • Alaska is the world leader in protecting and maintaining salmon habitat.
  • Strong state laws protect the healthy watersheds and habitat on which salmon stocks depend.
