Iron Chef America
The Food Network's Iron Chef America recently featured a cooking spar between acclaimed Japanese Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto and Seattle's renowned Chef Tom Douglas. The secret ingredient for the episode was Wild Alaska Salmon. Both chefs had 60 minutes to prepare five dishes using Alaska Salmon to win over the judges. After 68 wins, Masaharu Morimoto met his match, losing by only a few points to Chef Douglas.
Alaska Airlines Magazine
Over one million passengers flying on Alaska Airlines will have an opportunity to read the 10-page "Wild Alaska Seafood" article featured in the November issue of the Alaska Airlines Magazine. The article highlights Alaska's fisheries management systems, which are designed to ensure the sustainability of one of the state's most valuable resources.
The article notes how consumer interest in seafood origin, species and method of harvest is increasing. Also mentioned is the endorsement of Wild Alaska Salmon from organizations such as Monterey Bay Aquarium, the National Audubon Society, Environment Defense and the Seafood Choices Alliance. Additionally, Scott Barton, a Seattle-based seafood distribution manager for Whole Foods Market, noted the importance to his customers of the Alaska Salmon fishery being certified to the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) environmental standard. He further added that two of the best selling points at this time are "Alaska" and "Wild."
