Looking for a healthy glow? New research studies have linked seafood with lifelong skin health. According to research published in the Archives of Disease in Childhood, adding seafood to a child���s diet before 9 months of age can reduce the child���s chances of developing eczema. A painful skin condition that is becoming more common in Western countries, eczema is believed to be linked to diet.

A team of Swedish scientists created an ongoing study in which 17,000 infants born in 2003 were given an early introduction of fish in their diets. These children were tracked and any evidence of eczema was recorded. While genetic factors appeared to have the most influence on the development of eczema, the introduction of seafood was found to reduce the risk by 25%. The researchers noted, "The fact that fish is rich in omega-3 fatty acids could partly explain the effects found in this cohort."

Additionally, the omega-3s in seafood have been shown to prevent or minimize the impacts of acne. In the new book titled, "The Clear Skin Diet," Dr. Alan Logan writes that those prone to acne have seen significantly fewer acne lesions when on a diet of high-fiber with an emphasis on seafood, vegetables and fruit and reduced intake of meats and dairy products. The book includes dietary suggestions and recipes featuring seafood such as salmon.
