Cooking Light, October 2006
In the October issue of Cooking Light magazine wild salmon and halibut are included as top sources of omega-3 fatty acids in an article titled: 'Nutrients Women Need Most," which covers six vitamins and minerals that can help women stay healthy. Among the essential six: omega-3 fatty acids. Known as one of the "good" fats, the article quotes Leslie Bonci, R.D., M.P.H, director of sports medicine nutrition at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center: "Eating three ounces of omega-3-rich fish two to three times a week can reduce stroke risk by up to 60 percent in women." She further adds, "Omega-3 fatty acids decrease triglycerides (aka blood fats), boost good HDL cholesterol, and decrease blood pressure - all of which can lower the risk of cardiovascular disease."
