Going Wild with Alaska Seafood Promotions
Alaska seafood is the star of the menu for several large restaurant chain promotions.

At Captain D's Seafood Kitchen, wild Alaska salmon makes the menu in the "Hold the Gold" campaign that focuses on non-fried seafood items. Promotion materials feature the catchy tagline "It's fasta than goin to Alaska, baby!" The Wild Alaskan Salmon Dinner includes a 5.5 oz. Alaska chum salmon fillet served on a bed of rice with a breadstick and choice of two side items. It also comes with a choice of scampi, ginger teriyaki, or sweet chili sauce. Another featured menu item is the Wild Alaskan Salmon Sandwich, which is a seasoned Alaska salmon fillet on a Kaiser bun served with tartar sauce and lettuce. The promotion ran through the end of December. Captain D's owns 600 restaurants in 23 states and several countries overseas. The menu offers a wide variety of fried and grilled fish, shrimp and chicken dishes, pasta meals, salads, regional seafood favorites, as well as a wide variety of side items.

New Ad Featuring the Artwork of Famed Alaska Artist, Rie Muñoz
The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute recently launched a new print advertising campaign celebrating over 50 years of sustainability in Alaska. The advertisement carries the headline "Our tradition of sustainability began half a century ago" and features a wonderfully whimsical illustration by Rie Muñoz, one of Alaska's most treasured women artists.

Muñoz is known for her work that depicts the everyday life of people in Alaska with sensitivity and charm. One of her favorite topics to illustrate is fishing and seafood processing, which employ more people than any other industry in Alaska. The illustration in this ad shows a group of fishermen unloading crab pots on the pier, with the icy clear water below and snowy mountains in the background.

Sustainability isn't a trend in Alaska. In fact, the Alaska State Constitution has mandated sustainability since 1959. Alaska has long been recognized as a leader in sustainable fisheries management. The effectiveness of the state's policies can be seen in the strong track record for consistently healthy and sustainable fish harvests, year after year.
