Lent begins on February 17th and lasts until April 3rd this year, and now is the time to
begin planning your Alaska seafood promotions. To help you get started, the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) has developed some brand new point-of-sale materials. These new materials include a poster, table tent, menu sheet
and waitstaff button. The "Wild Alaska Seafood: Legendary Flavor" POS is
accompanied by a delightful illustration of an Alaskan totem pole - complete with
carvings of an Alaska salmon, halibut and crab and a toque-wearing chef. The rugged
and wild Alaska scenery including a snow-capped volcano can be seen in the
background. By displaying these materials, your patrons will be reminded of Alaska's
unique heritage and pristine environment, and the unparalleled flavor of the seafood that
comes from this majestic place.

New consumer research data is also available that points to continued consumer
preference for wild, natural and sustainable seafood. Based on a recent study, 75% of
consumers feel it is important to know the source or origin of the fish they purchase.
Additionally, 72% of consumers feel it is important that the fish they purchase is
environmentally sustainable, and 68% feel it is important that the fish they purchase is
naturally caught or wild.
