NEW SUSTAINABILITY TOOLS FOR OPERATORS SERVING WILD ALASKA SEAFOOD

The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute Releases New POS Materials

Juneau, Alaska, July 15, 2008 – In their continuing effort to provide foodservice operators with the tools necessary to promote wild, natural and sustainable Alaska seafood, the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) releases new Point of Sale (POS) materials. The newly designed materials include table tents, posters, menu sheets, and wait staff buttons. These new materials offer customers a glimpse of Alaska’s dedication to sustainability, while helping operators promote their wild Alaska seafood menu offerings.

In addition, they help operators communicate to their customers that they care about sustainability by sourcing wild-caught Alaska seafood. According to the National Restaurant Association, “six in 10 U.S. consumers say they are ‘likely to choose a restaurant based on its level of environmental friendliness.’”

These materials are free to industry and can be ordered by calling 800-806-2497.

Since acceptance into the Union in 1959, Alaska’s Constitution has mandated that “fish…be utilized, developed and maintained on the sustained yield principle.” This long-term dedication to sustainability has resulted in keeping the world stocked with a continuous, ever-replenishing supply of wild seafood. Indeed, Alaska's effective and precise fisheries management practices are considered a model for the world.
