Preliminary salmon harvest figures from Alaska Department of Fish and Game show the total 2007 Alaska salmon harvest at 200 million fish, ranking as the 4th-largest catch historically. Data Release Timing: Alaska Salmon Price Report

Alaska Department of Revenue released the May – August 2007 Alaska Salmon Price Report (ASPR) on October 16, after the deadline for publication of this bulletin. The ASPR is a key data source for the Seafood Market Information Service and we will provide coverage of that report, including canned salmon inventory estimates, as a supplemental publication in the first week of November.


World Cod Supply

The Pacific cod fishery is playing an increasingly important role in Alaska’s fishery portfolio. Thanks to growing prices, ex-vessel value of the P-cod fishery is expected to easily surpass $200 million in 2007, despite a modest reduction in harvest quota. The increasing price trend for Alaska cod is driven by global supply and demand dynamics. READ MORE


2007/08 Bering Sea King Crab, Snow Crab Quotas

The Bering Sea king crab and snow crab fisheries began October 15.
The 2007/08 king crab total allowable catch (TAC) has been set at 20.3 million pounds, a 31 percent increase over the 2006 quota. Recent trade press coverage indicates fishermen accepted a price of $4.20 a pound, up from the average ex-vessel price of $3.84 per pound in 2006. READ MORE

Discussion of North America king crab harvest and supply are excluded from this article. Much of the Alaska king crab harvest is exported, while most of the snow crab and Dungeness crab caught in North America goes to the domestic food service sector and is consumed in restaurants.
