We are pleased to offer you the first edition of ASMI’s Seafood Market Bulletin. The Bulletin is provided to the Alaska seafood industry by the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute, as part of its market reporting and analysis program, the Seafood Market Information Service. This program, which is executed for ASMI by the McDowell Group, has recently been expanded from coverage of salmon market information to include many of Alaska’s key seafood species: groundfish species, such as pollock and cod, crab, halibut and sablefish, as well as salmon.

Many diverse fisheries contribute to the overall value of the Alaska seafood industry. As reflected below, pollock and salmon are expected to account for one-quarter each of the seafood industry’s 2006 contribution to ASMI’s funding, with halibut and sablefish contributing another fifth and the balance coming from other groundfish and shellfish.

In order to reach the maximum number of interested industry members, quickly and efficiently, we are offering the Seafood Market Bulletin in this electronic format. If you would like to receive email notification of the release of each new bulletin, please take a brief moment to sign up. The Seafood Market Bulletin will also be archived on ASMI’s website.

It is our hope that the Seafood Market Bulletin will prove a valuable information source, no matter what your role in the Alaska seafood industry.
