Emerging Good News
Atherosclerotic Plaques: Heart attack is usually preceded by the buildup of deposits in the blood vessels that restrict blood flow. These deposits are called plaques. New research suggests that omega-3s from fish stabilize these plaques and reduce the chance of rupture and heart attack.
Mental Health: Emerging research suggests that fish omega-3s may reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease, depression, and some other psychological conditions. They may also reduce the severity of some psychological symptoms such as depression.
Cancer: Omega-3s may discourage the development or spread of some types of cancer-breast, colon, and prostate. They do not cure the disease, but may make it less dangerous.
