Japan Sujiko Salmon Roe Product – Market Development Support
February 1 - February 28
“Sujiko” salmon roe (season salmon roe in sack) is one of the traditional Alaska seafood products which has been supplied to the Japanese market for a long time, and is a popular food to eat with rice, especially in East and North Japan. Traditionally it was said among seafood industry people that it is impossible to sell sujiko salmon roe in the markets of West Japan, so very few companies have tried to promote sujiko salmon roe products there, but after exchanging opinions with one major retailer – Aeon – they decided to try and develop the Sujiko market in West Japan through in-store promotions during June 2016.
After the one-month promotion that Aeon conducted in West Japan in cooperation with ASMI Japan in 2016, sales of Alaska origin sujiko salmon roe products have been growing remarkably, and Aeon and ASMI Japan have now agreed to conduct the promotion again in early 2017, after the New Year season. ASMI Japan is going to contribute to the promotion through sending demonstrators to 50 of Aeon’s larger stores in West Japan (including major cities Nagoya, Osaka, and Hiroshima) for 2 days per store.
