“ ‘Tis The Season To Be Sustainable With Wild Alaska Seafood”
Celebrate the Holidays With Wild Alaska Seafood

Juneau, Alaska, December 5, 2007 – The holiday season is a time for caring about those around you and the world we live in. The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) invites you to put a wild twist on your favorite holiday traditions with wild and sustainable Alaska seafood. Alaska seafood takes the guesswork out of providing a stunning, delicious and sustainable holiday meal for loved ones.

Whether preparing a feast for many or few, the holidays call for using only the finest ingredients. The signature flavor, superior quality and unmatched purity of Alaska seafood make it the ideal choice for special holiday gatherings. Wild Alaska salmon, whitefish and shellfish varieties can be prepared in an array of holiday fashions, from elegant appetizers to divine main courses. Try Seared Alaska Scallops with Winter Fruit Salsa.

What’s more, no matter which variety you choose, all Alaska seafood shares the same distinction – sustainability. Alaska is world-famous for its legendary seafood, developing in a natural environment in the icy pure waters of Alaska. Alaska’s wild harvest represents roughly half of the commercial seafood harvest in the United States and is 100% sustainable.  For nearly five decades, the state of Alaska’s management practices have ensured that all Alaska seafood meet strict sustainability standards.  In fact, the summer of 2007 boasts the fourth largest salmon harvests in state history, a testament to Alaska’s robust and healthy seafood populations and a system of sustainability that works, the whole year through.

Can’t decide what type of Alaska seafood to prepare?  Wild Alaska seafood comes in a variety of forms available throughout the whole year, including fresh, frozen, canned, pouched and smoked.  With ASMI’s quick and simple COOK IT FROZEN!TM techniques, busy holiday cooks can store premium frozen wild Alaska seafood in their home freezer, and prepare an elegant Alaska seafood meal without thawing – in under thirty minutes!

Alaska is the pioneer of sustainability. Since acceptance into the Union in 1959, Alaska’s Constitution has mandated that “fish…be utilized, developed and maintained on the sustained yield principle.” This long-term dedication to sustainability has resulted in keeping the world stocked with a continuous, ever-replenishing supply of wild seafood. Indeed, Alaska's effective and precise fisheries management practices are considered a model for the world.

The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute is the State of Alaska’s official seafood marketing arm.  It is a public agency of the State of Alaska, funded by the Alaska seafood industry with support from state and federal funds.  ASMI promotes Alaska seafood throughout the U.S. and in 16 other countries.  ASMI also provides education and training to the seafood industry in food safety and quality assurance practices.  Please visit www.alaskaseafood.org for more information.
